A newsletter to get you writing.

Several years ago, I was part of a writing group that was generative, meaning that when we’d meet, the group facilitator would offer prompts to help attendees generate new material. I really enjoyed those sessions and when a friend and I started a writing group, I had fun coming up with prompts for generative exercises. When I started Paper Bag Writers, a side project focused on getting people to submit fiction, nonfiction, and poetry written on a brown paper bag, I assembled writing prompts on index cards. That project ended several years ago, but I kept the cards with prompts…and I decided it was time to do something with them.

That’s where Connecting the Nouns comes in. Every Thursday beginning August 3, 2023, subscribers will receive a writing prompt with a brief introduction. The prompt may include a video link or poem. In September, I’ll open up the comments section so that subscribers can share what they wrote with others, if they wish to.

Is Connecting the Nouns free?

For now, yes. You’ll have an opportunity to pledge your support once paid subscriptions become available. Find out how Substack pledges work here.

What will a paid subscription include?

Here are some benefits I’m considering for paid subscribers:

  • Access to a private Discord channel where you can share what you’ve written with fellow writers and talk about creative inspiration

  • Weekly, biweekly, or monthly writing sessions via audio/video on the private Discord channel (we’ll figure out the schedule after the Substack goes paid)

If there’s something you’d love to have as a benefit of going paid, let me know.

Thanks for checking out the newsletter!

Corinne
